Cruel Thesis.

I painted a dark neon piece in Procreate by reappropriating a previous visual from a sequential piece of mine, ENVISION. I attempted to follow themes similar to fairy tales or a dream like celestial beings. It’s a visual of an angel with watchful eyes. I drew inspiration from the biblical classifications of the Thrones angel being an overseer-like figure upon one’s soul being the true judgement of truth to a soul. The hands serve as the wings for this angel.. I used my hands as references to closer relate it to myself in a related work. The eye speaks of watching other souls in a timely manner. One is forever observed by their limited time and experience. Eyes play as the surveillance through their life. In the central eye are roman numerals resembling a clock. This is time's gaze over a finite lifespan and judgement slowly creeping over.

The title is inspired from Neon Genesis Evangelion’s intro theme “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis”. I chose to visualize the angel aspects and leave the rest of the text to further dive into the concept. Cruel Thesis speaks of relating to a statement of truth that could be difficult to accept. As there are 9 concepts to these angels, the angel Thrones cruel thesis speaks of knowing and being all seeing over one’s actions.

Meaning, this piece’s theme is truth. While one may create an illusion of purity, the truth is all seeing.
